UFC’s Bid To Legalize MMA In New York On Ice Again For Another Year

In news that will surprise no-one, the UFC’s latest bid to get mixed martial arts legalized in the state of New York has once again failed.

“It will not come to the floor this year,” The Assembly Democratic Speaker Silver tells the nydailynews.

If there’s one positive for the UFC however it’s that Silver believes there is more support for legalizing the sport now than there has been in the past.

“I think it’s evolving,” he said after noting a fairly even split in opinion about the bill. “I don’t think two years ago it was a 50-50 proposition.”

One source in the room told the paper that it was, “a dwindling number of aging veterans,” who were blocking the way for MMA to become legal in the state.

Reacting to the judgement, the UFC’s Mark Ratner voiced his disappointment, saying, “I feel 150% if we had a vote on the floor of the Assembly we would win. Not to get a vote is un-American.”
