UFC’s Superbowl Weekend Event On FS1 In 2014 Will Replace PPV Event

Last week it was announced that the UFC would host an event during Superbowl weekend on FOX Sports 1 in 2014, but it wasn’t clear whether this would replace their traditional pay-per-view card or would be a mid-week precursor to it.

Now it’s been confirmed that the event will take place on the Saturday night before the Superbowl on February 1st which will rule out the possibility of the UFC also doing a PPV show.

That’s good news for fight fans as they’ll now be getting what’s traditionally one of the UFC’s more stacked events of the year for free.

As I’ve said before, I do wish that this event would have aired on ‘big’ FOX where it would have had the potential to be seen by the most viewers, but I’m certainly intrigued to see how a major show will do on FS1.

Historically Superbowl weekend events have been good to the UFC in terms of both PPV numbers and prelim ratings on TV so the signs are positive that they could do well with this one if they can piece together a compelling fight card.
