Originally it was rumored that bantamweight star Urijah Faber would fight British fighter Vaughan Lee next, but it seems he will in fact be put in a more meaningful bout opposite Ivan Menjivar.
It’s been confirmed that this fight will take place at UFC 157 on February 23rd in Anaheim, Califonia as part of a card that’ll also feature a light-heavyweight No.1 contender bout between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida.
Faber is coming off a loss to Renan Barao in a 135lb interim title fight earlier in the year, while Menjivar produced a spectacular belly-down armbar finish against Azamat Gashimov in his last fight and is currently 4-1 since re-joining the UFC.
The top end of the bantamweight division is in a state of limbo at the moment after yesterday’s news that current champ Dominick Cruz is going to be out for another 6-9 months due to a second ACL operation. That means that interim champion Barao will now have to take center-stage in the division, but his next challenge is likely to come from the fast rising Michael McDonald.
