Former 145lb champion Urijah Faber makes his debut at 135lbs tonight against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 52, and in a new video he gives an indication of the extremes he’s gone to in the weight-cutting department for this fight.
Yesterday a slightly gaunt looking and clearly dehydrated Faber tipped the scales at 136lbs for the bantamweight bout.
“It’s been a fun cut,” Faber said sarcastically afterwards. “It’s been a little difficult at the end (but) I feel great.”
10 hours later Faber videos himself in his hotel suite weighing 153lbs, a remarkable 17lbs increase.
Though it’s not unusual to see fighters pushing the limits to gain a weight advantage in their fights, this kind of a weight gain is usually only seen in considerably bigger athletes.
Tonight we’ll fight out if the size difference he should be enjoying over Mizugaki helps his plight, or if the grueling process of cutting weight a day before the fight has a damaging effect on his conditioning.
Watch the video below which also includes footage of Faber’s rather plush hotel suite in Las Vegas.
