Urijah Faber To Face Takeya Mizugaki At WEC 50

Urijah Faber’s move down to the WEC’s 135lb division is now official, and his first opponent will be Takeya Mizugaki. The news comes courtesy of mmaweekly.com who report that the bout will take place at WEC 50 on August 18th.

Mizugaki is certainly no easy introduction to bantamweight for Faber. The Japanese fighter holds a career record of 13-4-2 and previously fought for the 135lb WEC title in April of last year, putting on an impressive showing against then dominant champion Miguel Torres despite eventually losing by unanimous decision.

Faber recently admitted that 135lbs is a more natural weight class for him though, and he could certainly pose a considerable threat in the division. It remains to be seen if he makes this move permanent though as there are indications he still sees unfinished business at featherweight.

Also announced for the show is a bantamweight title fight between current champion Dominic Cruz and Joseph Benavidez as the WEC pull out all the stops for their 50th event which will be broadcast on Versus.
