The WEC’s biggest star Urijah Faber will make his debut in the UFC in March against Eddie Wineland at UFC 128.

Verbal agreements are in place according to the MMAfighting site, and the bout is expected to feature on the main card of the event which is headlined by the light-heavyweight title fight between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Rashad Evans.

The match-up is interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly it means that Faber will not fight Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title as had originally been anticipated. It also rules Faber out of a coaching role on The Ultimate Fighter season 13 against either Cruz or Miguel Torres as had also been previously rumored.

Faber recently moved down to 135lbs after a failed attempt to reclaim the featherweight title against Jose Aldo at WEC 48. he picked up his first win at bantamweight earlier this month, finishing Takeya Muzugaki in the first round by rear-naked choke.

Meanwhile Wineland, who had the honor of being the WEC’s first ever bantamweight champ back in 206 has been on a tear of late in the division, winning four fights in a row, the last two claiming ‘Knockout Of The Night’ honors. As with Faber, a win for Wineland would surely grant him the next shot at the bantamweight title.
