With Chael Sonnen having been pulled from UFC 175 following a failed drugs test, officials have now confirmed that his opponent for the July 5th show in Las Vegas, Vitor Belfort, is also now off the card too.

Initially there had been hopes that Belfort would remain on the main card line-up, with Luke Rockhold having expressed a strong interest in a rematch with the Brazilan star, but it seems that the UFC have decided against pursuing that option.

Belfort had intended to apply for a license to fight in Nevada on June 17th in order to compete at the event, but there was some doubt as to whether he would be successful as he too had failed a random drugs test back in February.

Since Belfort is no longer going to fight at the event he’s also not going to be applying for a license at this time either, though he’ll still be required to do so at some stage before he next steps into the Octagon.

So, UFC 175, which looked all set to be the most stacked card of the year, has certainly suffered a major blow here.

Having said that, it’s still a huge show given that it has the luxury of two big title fights topping the bill, with Chris Weidman defending his middleweight title against Lyoto Machida while Ronda Rousey makes her latest bantamweight defense against Alexis Davis.
