Incoming Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will get a major fight for his UFC debut as he’s rumored to be Vitor Belfort’s next opponent.

That was the word according to Dana White today following the ‘UFC On Fuel TV 7’ press conference in London, telling reporters that the fight will take place at an as yet unannounced event in Brazil later this year.

Belfort is coming off a TKO win over Michael Bisping in January which also took place in his native Brazil, his third win in a row at middleweight, though he did suffer a loss at light-heavyweight to current champion Jon Jones during that period.

Over the past few years Rockhold has established himself as the dominant force at 185lbs in the Strikeforce organization, racking up a nine fight winning streak there that includes wins over the likes of Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Tim Kennedy and Keith Jardine.

This looks like a well matched fight on paper and a win would be meaningful to either man as they look to position themselves at the front of the queue for a title shot in the division.

  1. Doesn’t Belfort want to take another swing at Jones? Not sure jumping in the cage with all the middleweight contenders is a route to get him back there. Wrong weight class bro.

  2. I’m assuming the UFC grabbed Vitor in a headlock, rapped their knuckles across the top his head while shouting, “Hello?! Mcfly!?!” and then told him to get back to concentrating on the middleweight division.
