Bellator Fighting Championships have announced that their latest signing is none other than former TUF star, War Machine.
As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader, the controversial fighter recently spent a year in prison for assault, but he was released in July and then proved he’s still capable of making an impact in the MMA scene by recording a third round TKO victory over another former UFC and Bellator star Roger Huerta last month.
That left him with a 12-4 pro record and convinced Bellator that now was the time to snap up the 30 year-old.
In fact it’s not the first time he’s signed for the promotion, but his previous stint barely started before it ended when he was released for making some ill-advised comments about Barack Obama in his blog that created a lot of controversy at the time.
Time heals all wounds though and Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney now believes the time is right to give him a second chance.
“Jon’s not had an easy road,” Rebney said. “And there’s no doubt he’s made some poor choices, but after having had conversations with him since his release, he really seems to understand where and why things went wrong and wants to make them right. And, when he’s focused on nothing but training and fighting, he’s a talented and exciting fighter.”
Meanwhile War Machine also expressed his appreciation at having been given this opportunity by Bellator.
“I pressed rewind and now I have a chance to get my life back on track. It feels great. Not everyone gets this kind of opportunity. I’m just stoked to be back in the mix here with Bellator.”
