Former Strikeforce woman’s 145lb champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos had her title stripped and her reputation tarnished earlier this year when it emerged that she had tested positive for steroids after her latest victory against Hiroko Yamanaka at a Strikeforce event in December of last year.
She’s now serving a year’s suspension from MMA and hasn’t been seen much in the public eye since, but now she’s released a new video statement in which he addresses a number of issues regarding her steroids use.
According to Santos she inadvertantly took steroids via a dietary supplement given to her by someone else in her camp. She claims she was completely unaware of it’s true effects and has never knowingly taken steroids. She also points out that she tested clean after her famous fight with Gina Carano in 2009.
The Brazilian fighter goes on to make it clear that she does not condone any form of illegal drug use and says she’s removed certain people from her training camp and is taking monthly drug tests now to prove that she’s not a cheater and ensure that she doesn’t find herself in this situation again.
Who knows whether this is the real truth of the matter or not, but if she steers clear of illegal drug use from this point forward then that’s all that really matters.
Personally I hope that she comes back just as strong as she was before as she was a very talented athlete and is the perfect opponent to really give new emerging star Ronda Rousey the kind of fight that could elevate female mixed martial arts as a whole.
