The ‘Bellator moments’ just keep coming, with the latest being their current middleweight champion Hector Lombard’s knockout of Jay Silva in just six seconds at Bellator 18 last night.
Silva had stepped in as a late replacement after Lombard’s original opponent Paulo Fihlo pulled out citing VISA issues. The Brazilian had spent his last two bouts fighting in the UFC, but after suffering back-to-back defeats he was released in January and so an invite from Bellator was seen as a welcome return to action.
In hindsight might regret having been so eager to accept the bout, which was fought at a catcheweight of 190lbs, as Lombard was in no mood to take it easy on his new opponent and immediately went on the offensive, clipping him with a right and then a powerful left straight to the chin which dropped Silva, who had never been knocked out before, face first onto the canvas.
The win means that Lombard’s unbeaten record now stands at a remarkable 19 fights. The only blemish during that time is a a draw with Kyle Noke back in 2007.
