While some of the UFC stars were fighting for the troops last night in Texas, former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver was busy fighting for his own pride at XFO 38 in Chicago after suffering a six fight losing streak over the past few years.
Thankfully the popular fighter finally got the win he’d been seeking for so long, taking just 49 seconds to submit Mike Lindquist by rear-naked choke in a featherweight match-up.
If his opponent’s name doesn’t ring a bell that’s because he’s not exactly a world-beater. Announced as, “the fifth ranked featherweight in Illinois,” that glosses over the fact that he in fact holds a record of 6-19, and hadn’t one in his past four fights.
Still, this was a confidence boosting exercise as much as anything for the 36 year-old Pulver, and perhaps takes a little weight of his shoulders.
