After last night’s WEC 50 event some of the key fighters on the card gave their thoughts on the fight in the post-fight press conference. In a highlights package put together by heavy.com below you can listen to what Joseph Benavidez, Dominick Cruz, Chad Mendes, Scott Jorgensen and WEC General Manager Reed Harris.
Joseph Benavidez on the judges decision: “I figured I didn’t do enough to win, but I wasn’t watching the fight so when the judge did say my name it was quite a surprise. I was like, wow, can this happen? Is this like a work of God or something? But yeah, it didn’t go my way.”
Scott Jorgensen on a potential title fight with Dominick Cruz: “I honestly think I’m a better striker than Dominick, he just moves in there at a great rate and creates different angles. My wrestling is better than his. If I want to take someone down I will, I’ll find a way. If he wants to stop it I’ve got some tricks in my bag. For me it would be a great fight. I feel I’m stronger in every area. I’ll bring that belt back.”
Dominick Cruz on the judges scoring: “In my humble opinion I thought I won all the rounds, but I think that the crowd has a big part to play in the judges opinions sometimes. Also, he caught me with a real slick knee up against the cage that made me bleed real bad and I would assume the blood could have swayed the judges a little as well.”
Chad Mendes On His Improved Striking: “This was the first fight where I actually felt a little bit more comfortable getting in there and standing up. Obviously Cub’s stand-up is really good so he started getting the better of me later in the later rounds, but luckily I was able to use my wrestling to stay on top.”
