WEC 51 may have been a pay-per-view worthy card featuring a host of stars like Jose Aldo, Donald Cerrone, Jamie Varner, Miguel Torres and Mike Thomas Brown to name but a few, but it failed to make a significant impact at the ticket office in The Rocky Moutain State.

The official figures today reveal that the event drew an audience of 3,791 fans to the 1stBANK Center in Colorado, producing a gate of $191,620.

Given the wealth of talent on show that’s a disappointing turnout, though it should be stressed that this was a Thursday night event which may have had an influence on the overall numbers.

Though the ticket sales may have left a little to be desired the fights on the night certainly did not.  WEC events are now as close to guaranteed entertainment as you can get in the MMA world, but it appears that convincing fans to come and support the lighter weight-classes is still a major challenge for the promotion.
