The WEC are set to end the year with a bang with two title fights gracing their WEC 53 event on December 16th.
The promotion announced today that current lightweight champion Ben Henderson will be putting his title on the line against the always exciting Anthony Pettis.
Henderson will be looking to successfully defend the 155lb belt for a third time in Arizona while simultaneously extending his winning run to 12 fights.
Pettis only has one loss in his 12 fight career though and has been in eye-catching form lately as he’s strung three wins in a row, claiming ‘Knockout Of The Night’ and ‘Submission Of The Night’ awards along the way.
The event will also play host to bantamweight champ Dominic Cruz next title fight with Scott Jorgensen next in line for the opportunity.
Cruz has solidified his position as the division’s best fighter recently, defeating former champion Brian Bowles and then following up with a five round win over Joseph Benavidez last month.
Jorgensen has undoubtedly earned his right to fight for the title after tearing his way through his opponents in his last five fights in the promotion, including a fight of the night performance against the UK’s Brad Pickett last time out.
