At the weekend Dana White revealed to fans at the UFC Fan Expo in Boston that the WEC could have a much-talked about flyweight division installed sooner rather than later.

When asked by a fan if the 125lb division will be in place by the end of the year White told him, “You could be right.”

The UFC president also said that bringing in such divisions into the mix will become a necessity as they continue their ambitious global expansion plans.

“As we continue to do more fights, continue to travel around, we need more weight divisions. So we’re going to be adding weight divisions and getting those lighter weights in there.”

Over and above that White also admitted that a WEC version of popular show ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ could also be in the works, though he gave no timeline for it.

Overall this is very good news. There’s a lot of talented fighters at 125lbs who have so far slipped under the radar due to the lack of major promotions promoting their fights, so this could be very good news indeed for them.

It would also be a welcome addition for the fans as well, with the lighter divisions being well known for producing exciting, action-packed fights.
