It’s not always easy to decipher what Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is talking about in his interviews, and last night he left everyone confused with his post-fight comments following an impressive victory over Paul Daley.
“Their going to suspend me for that sh*t, and…I don’t even know why I do this, I’m like, ‘whatever, suspend me’, you know what I mean,” Diaz told a puzzled looking Ariel Helwani who immediately asked him for clarification.
The answer Diaz gave in reply didn’t exactly shed much light on the situation.
“For whatever, I don’t know, but I can guarantee I’m suspended for whatever happened out there, and I’m like, you know…”
It’s a strange claim as Diaz didn’t appear to do anything untoward during or after the fight, so later Helwani tracked down Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker to find out if he knew what was going on.
Unfortunately Coker was as baffled as everyone else, and stated he had no idea what Diaz was refererring to.
So what did happen?
My best guess is that Diaz isn’t talking about being suspended for breaking a rule, but rather is referring to a medical suspension instead which are generally handed out where neccessary post-fight after a check-up.
Diaz was floored on two seperate occasions during a dramatic first round with the hard-hitting Daley, and that may well be why he’s going to have to serve a little time on the sidelines.
