Alex Oliveira Vs Gunnar Nelson Set For UFC 231

A welterweight fight between Alex Oliveira and Gunnar Nelson has been announced for UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada on December 8th.

‘Cowboy’ Oliveira is coming off back-to-back wins in the Octagon, having submitted Carlos Condit with a guillotine choke and then TKO’d Carlos Pedersoli Jr so far in 2018.

In fact, Oliveira has only lost once in his last eight UFC fights, suffering a TKO against Yancy Medeiros late last year, which his other notable wins during his recent run have been over the likes of Ryan LaFlare, Tim Means and Will Brooks.

As for Nelson, he hasn’t been seen since a KO loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio back in July of last year. Prior to that he had notched up submission victories over both Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban.

A knee injury has kept Nelson from competing for much of 2018, but he’s finally ready to make an appearance before the year closes out as he looks to build on his overall 7-3 UFC record to date.

Oliveira Vs Nelson joins a UFC 231 fight card that is set to be headlined by a featherweight title clash between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega, while there’s also another belt on the line with the vacant flyweight title up for grabs when Valentina Shevchenko fights Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event of the evening.
