Boxing Champ Adrian Broner’s Got An Ill-Informed Opinion Regarding MMA

It’s understandable that some people don’t like the sport of mixed martial arts – everybody’s different, but sometimes the reasons they give for why they don’t appreciate it make so little sense that you realize that they don’t actually know what they are talking about.

Case in point – current WBA welterweight champion Adrian Broner.  In a new interview with FightHype he shows a remarkable lack of insight and understanding when asked his opinion of MMA.

“I’m really not to big on MMA,” Broner stated.  “It’s just…I really don’t look at it as a real sport ‘cos anybody can come in to MMA and learn that.  You can learn that.  You just can’t come over to boxing and be a world champion, you really got to be born with it.”

…but wait, Broner wasn’t finished letting everyone know how little he knows about the sport…

“You, right now could go into MMA and learn all the submission moves and be a world champion.  It doesn’t matter how long it takes. I don’t give a fuck what you do, you can try to come over to boxing, and you won’t ever be a world champion. I’m not disrespecting you, but I’m just saying, that’s how it works.”

So, safe to say Broner’s not one of the great thinkers of our time then.

Luckily others aren’t so narrow-minded. Some boxing stars who’ve shown their support for MMA include Mike Tyson, Wladimir Klitschko, Oscar Dela Hoya, David Haye, Ricky Hatton and even Bernard Hopkins who at one time was a hater, but has since seen the light and become a fan.

Ross launched MMA Insight (previously FightOfTheNight.com) in 2009 as a way to channel his passion for the sport of mixed martial arts. He's since penned countless news stories and live fight reports along with dozens of feature articles as the lead writer for the site, reaching millions of fans in the process.
