Brian Ortega Hints At Move To Lightweight If He Defeats Max Holloway

Brian Ortega has only just secured a featherweight title fight against Max Holloway, but he’s already contemplating moving up to lightweight afterwards.

“I’ve thought about it,” Ortega told the UFC Unfiltered podcast when asked about a potential move to 155lbs. “We need the perfect match-up as far as a fight that I can really give the fans to see. Not just a regular match. I really want to give them a war and something crazy and something big, especially if I’m going to move up a weight class.”

Ortega went on to confirm that the move could come sooner rather than later if he is able to win the featherweight title from ‘Blessed.’

“I’ve definitely thought about it. My goal is, if I’m successful against Max Holloway, I’m looking at some opportunities and things in the 155 division.”

Coincidentally, recently Holloway has also suggested that the lightweight division could be in his future if the UFC continues to tighten their weight-cutting policies.

“I’m a big boy for featherweight, so 155 is going to happen,” Holloway told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour show back in January. “Sooner or later, we don’t know when, we’re just waiting. But when the time comes, it comes.”
