Conor McGregor May Rematch Khabib Nurmagomedov After UFC 242 Says Dana White

Conor McGregor could walk straight into a rematch with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after the Russian star’s next fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in September.

That’s the word according to Dana White, despite the previous thinking being that he would need to fight again first before getting another shot at the belt.

“Conor wants that fight,” White stated on ESPN SportsCenter. “Conor wants the rematch with Khabib. All these guys have been fighting, again, this thing’s going to play out this weekend and then Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi, and then we’ll figure out what’s next for Conor.”

“I could, I absolutely could [see a rematch].”

White also confirmed that McGregor is already in the gym preparing for his comeback fight, even though it sounds like it might still be late in the year at the very earliest before it may come to fruition.

“He’s training. Obviously we’ll sit back and we’ll watch how this whole thing plays out with these fights and see where Conor fits in and what he wants to do next.”

Not everybody’s thrilled to hear that McGregor is straight back into the title picture though, including Justin Gaethje, who has since had a rant at ‘The Notorious’ on Twitter.

“Do it the right way pussy,” Gaethje wrote to McGregor. “Stop shitting on the integrity of the sport. You want @TeamKhabib again you fight me, or the winner of Cowboy and Ferguson or get the fuck out of here and enjoy all that money.”
