Cynthia Calvillo Out Of UFC 254 Due To Positive Covid-19 Test

Cynthia Calvillo has been forced out of her UFC 254 fight with Lauren Murphy after testing positive for Covid-19.

Calvillo had been hoping to fight for the second time this year after racking up a decision win over former flyweight title contender Jessica Eye back in June.

That had extended Calvillo’s current unbeaten run to four fights, leaving her with an overall 9-1-1 record, though she’s still only ranked No.12 in the division at this time.

After hearing news of Calvillo’s withdrawal, Murphy sent her opponent a message of support, while indicating that she still planned to compete on the UFC 254 event.

“Hope @cyn_calvillo is okay!” Murphy wrote. “Maybe (hopefully) we can run it in a few weeks!

“In the mean time, I’m still planning on having the fight of my life on Fight Island! See you guys soon.”

It’s since been confirmed that Murphy will indeed remain on the card, going up against short-notice newcomer Liliya Shakirova from Uzbekistan, who brings an 8-1 record to the Octagon.

Murphy is currently on a three-fight winning streak courtesy of victories against Mara Romero Borella, Andrea Lee and most recently Roxanne Modafferi, and is ranked No.4 in the flyweight division.

UFC 254 takes place on October 24th and features a must-see lightweight title headliner between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
