Derrick Lewis Vs Alexander Volkov In The Works For UFC 229

A heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov is believed to be in the works for UFC 229 in Las Vegas on October 6th.

Lewis is coming off an extremely lackluster unanimous decision win over Francis Ngannou at UFC 226 last month that did little for either fighters reputation.

However, in general ‘The Black Beast’ is known for being a heavy-handed knockout artist who had won 7 of his previous 8 fights before that by way of strikes, with his only loss during that period coming by TKO against Mark Hunt in June of last year.

As for Volkov, he is one of the division’s most in-form fighters, having racked up four wins in a row since joining the UFC in late 2016.

A split decision win over Timothy Johnson was then followed by higher-profile victories, staring with a decision victory over Roy Nelson, then a TKO stoppage against Stefan Struve and most recently another TKO finish against former champion Fabricio Werdum back in March.

Lewis and Volkov is rumored to have been ear-marked as the co-main event of the evening for UFC 229, providing the lead-in to the biggest fight of the year as lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov takes on returning superstar Conor McGregor.
