A lightweight fight between Diego Ferreira and Grant Dawson has been booked for UFC Fight Night 195 on October 2nd.
Not so long ago Ferreira was on a strong run in the 155lb weight class, compiled six wins in a row against the likes of Rustam Khabilov, Mairbek Tiasumov and Anthony Pettis.
However, the 36-year-old Ferreira has since had his momentum disrupted by back-to-back losses in 2021, losing out by split decision to Beneil Dariush and then being TKO’d by Gregor Gillespie.
That’s resulted in Ferreira slipping to No.12 on the lightweight ladder as he prepares to face the unranked but in-form Dawson, who first emerged via the Contender Series a few years ago.
Since then, Dawson has gone on a good run, stringing together a five-fight winning streak, culminating in a KO victory over Leandro Santos in March, which took his career record to an impressive 17-1.
With that in mind, a win over Ferreira could be just what the 27-year-old needs to push into contention for a spot on the lightweight rankings.
Ferreira vs. Dawson joins a UFC Fight Night 195 card that is rumored be headlined by a light-heavyweight fight between Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker, though that one hasn’t been officially confirmed at this time.
