Former light-heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes next fight will come against Jiri Prochazka in the main event of an upcoming UFC card on February 27th.
It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster 2020 for Reyes, having come close to pulling off an upset victory over light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones back in February, which raised his stock to a whole new level even although he eventually lost by unanimous decision.
However, Jones dismissed the notion of a rematch and so Reyes found himself in limbo for part of the year before Jones vacated the title in order to move up to heavyweight, which left ‘The Dominator’ matched up with Jan Blachowicz to see who would be crowned the new 205lb champion.
Despite going in as the favorite, Reyes found himself being outgunned by Blachowicz, who stopped him in the second round by TKO to lift the title.
So, coming off the only two losses in his 14-fight career, Reyes now has to rebuild and prove himself all over again against one of the division’s next rising talents, Jiri Prochazka, who holds an impressive 27-3 career record, including no less than 26 stoppage wins (24 by strikes).
For much of the past five years Prochazka has been plying his trade in the Rizin promotion over in Japan, where he’s defeated notable names like CB Dolloway, Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal and Fabio Maldonado.
In July Prochazka made his UFC debut against former title contender Volkan Oezdemir and made an instant impression by delivering a second round KO finish, which resulted in him dropping straight into No.5 on the 205lb rankings, while Reyes is at No.2.
