Dana White has been friends with President Donald Trump for many years, and it turns out that the Commander In Chief watched UFC 231 with his wife Melania Trump and enjoyed it so much that he phoned him up to rave about some of it’s biggest fights.
During a recent interview on the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast, White began the story by playing the start of a call he’d received from the President’s office.
“‘Hi mister White, this is Molly Michael, calling from President Trump’s office. The president was hoping to reach you by phone when you’re available,’” the soundbite said.
”So, he calls me on Tuesday,” White went on to reveal, “For 15 minutes he couldn’t stop talking about the fight. ‘Greatest fight I’ve ever seen in my life.’ He watched the fight with Melania. ‘Greatest fight I’ve ever seen.’ He’s talking about how tough Holloway and Ortega both are and he’s going off about the fights. And Thiago Santos, he couldn’t believe. ‘That fight was incredible,’ and all this stuff. As human beings, we love fighting.”
White’s bond with Trump was forged when he allowed the UFC to host several events at Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City back in the early 2000’s when the promotion was attempting to battle it’s way out of the dark ages.
The UFC president later returned the favor when he agreed to speak at the Republican National Convention during Trump’s bid to become president in 2016, while a documentary titled, the ‘Combatant In Chief’ detailed his involvement in the UFC’s history was recently aired on UFC Fight Pass.
