A lightweight fight between Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker has been targeted to headline an upcoming UFC event on June 27th.
Reports suggest that the UFC hopes to host the fight at their own APEX facility in Las Vegas on that date, but that it does depend on whether Hooker can get a VISA to fight there. If not then it may be that the fight is moved to a later date in July on the now infamous ‘Fight Island’ that they are planning to have events on in the near future.
For Poirier this will be the first time he has fought since an unsuccessful attempt to win the lightweight title from Khabib Nurmagomedov, losing out by submission in the third round.
Prior to that Poirier had been on a six-fight unbeaten stretch during which he’d defeated the likes of Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez, before winning the interim title with a decision victory over Max Holloway.
As for Hooker, he has won seven of his last eight fights, including his current trio of victories against James Vick, Al Iaquinta and most recently Paul felder.
That leaves Hooker ranked at No.5 in the lightweight division, two places below Poirier, who holds down the No.3 spot.
