A woman’s bantamweight bout between former champion Holly Holm and Bethe Correia is reportedly in the works to headline UFC Fight Night 111 in Singapore on June 17th.
Barely more than a year ago the 35-year-old former boxing champion Holm was on top of the world, having landed the knockout head kick heard around the world against Ronda Rousey to win the 135lb title, taking her MM record to a perfect 10-0.
Holm’s fall from grace since then has been remarkably swift, starting with losing her title after being rendered unconscious by a last gasp submission from Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in March of 2016.
A unanimous decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko followed after that, while she also came up on the wrong end of a decision in an unsuccessful attempt to become the UFC’s first ever woman’s featherweight champion against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208 this past February.
Her opponent Correia had endured her own slump not so long ago after a 9-0 start to her MMA run was ended in violent fashion by Rousey in just 34 seconds in 2015, followed by a split decision loss to Raquel Pennington.
Corriea has since got partially back on track after earning a narrow split decision victory over Jessica Eye, then having to settle for a majority draw against Marion Reneau last month.
Holm Vs Correia hasn’t been officially announced by the UFC yet, but it is expected to front a UFC Fight Night 111 show that will also feature Andrei Arlovski Vs Marcin Tybura, Tarec Saffiedine Vs Rafael dos Anjos and Takanori Gomi Vs Jon Tuck.
