The main event for this coming weekend’s UFC Fight Night 183 event in Las Vegas has suffered a major blow after Islam Makhachev pulled out of his fight with Rafael dos Anjos due to an undisclosed injury.
its’ very unfortunate news as it was shaping up to be an intriguing battle for Makhachev, who is currently on a six-fight winning streak in the UFC, defeating the likes of Davi Ramos, Gleison Tibau and Nik Lentz along the way.
RDA had been expected to be Makhachev’s toughest test yet, as the former lightweight champion was set to return to the division for the first time since experiencing mixed fortunes during a 4-4 run at welterweight.
During that time dos Anjos experienced some real highs, including starting of that campaign with a three-fight winning streak against Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny and Robbie Lawler that took him to an interim title bout, but more recently he’s lost four of his last five fights, including recent back-to-back defeats against Leon Edwards and Michael Chiesa.
On less than a week’s notice the UFC brass will now have to scramble to find a suitable replacement for Makhachev to keep RDA at the top of the bill on a line-up that quite frankly doesn’t currently have another bout that’s big enough to step into it’s place if the headliner is scratched.
