Israel Adesanya’s first middleweight title defense will come against Yoel Romero at UFC 248 in Las Vegas on March 7th.
Adesanya has been calling for the fight for some time since his previously scheduled opponent Paulo Costa was forced out due to an injury late last year and he’s finally been granted his wish.
The fight comes at a time when Adesanya has amassed a perfect 18-0 record that includes seven wins in a row inside the UFC’s Octagon.
Along the way he’s defeated the likes of Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum and most recently KO’d Robert Whittaker to win the belt.
As for Romero, the 42-year-old is actually coming off two losses in a row, having lost by split decision against Robert Whittaker in a non-title fight and then dropped a unnanimous decision to Paulo Costa back in August of last year.
Nevertheless, ‘The Soldier Of God’ is still considered to be on the most feared men in the sport and holds down the No.3 spot on the middleweight rankings.
Adesanya vs. Romero will headline a UFC 248 event that will also feature title action in the co-main event as Weili Zhang attempts to defend her strawweight title for the first time against former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
