A women’s strawweight fight between Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Penne will take place at UFC 265 on August 7th.
A former title contender in the division, Kowalkiewicz has fallen on hard times over the past couple of years, having now gone four fights without a win.
It’s a slump that began with a KO loss against Jessica Andrade back in 2019, and it’s since been followed by losses on the scorecards against Michelle Waterson, Alexa Grasso and then most recently Yan Xiaonan.
Not so long ago, Penne was also on a lengthy losing streak that began when she was TKO’d by Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a title fight back in 2015.
Another TKO loss against Jessica Andrade followed, then a decision loss to Danielle Taylor, and Penne had plenty of time to stew on those defeats as she was then suspended from the sport for four years after testing positive for steroids.
However, that punishment was later reduced to 20 months, and upon her eventual return back in April, Penne narrowly emerged with a split decision victory over Lupita Godinez.
Kowalkiewicz vs. Penne joins a UFC 265 card that will feature a women’s bantamweight title fight between dominant champion Amanda Nunes and former TUF winner Julianna Pena, while another female fight between Tecia Torres and Angela Hill is also scheduled for the event.
