Former flyweight title contender Katyln Chookagian’s next fight will be against Viviane Araujo at UFC Fight Night 193 on May 15th.
Chookagian fought current titleholder Valentina Shevchenko back in February of last year after having won five of her previous six fights in the promotion, but as has been the case for many other flyweight contenders, she came off second-best against the dominant champion.
The 32-year-old has stayed active since then, racking up another three fights in 2020, starting with a win over the champion’s sister Antonina Shevchenko.
She then suffered a TKO loss to former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade, but has again bounced back by defeating Cynthia Calvillo on the scorecards in November.
Meanwhile, Aruajo has compiled a 4-1 record in the UFC so far. She began her time in the Octagon with a KO finish against Talita Bernardo and then a decision victory over Alexis Davis, before dropping a unanimous decision loss to Jessica Eye.
More recently she’s gone on another two-fight winning streak after picking up unanimous decision victories over both Montana De La Rosa and Roxanne Modafferi.
Chookagian vs. Araujo joins a fledgling UFC Fight Night 193 card that’s only other bout so far sees Priscila Cachoeira taking on Gina Mazany.
