Leon Edwards is becoming increasingly irate at the fact that Jorge Masvidal won’t fight him, despite their rivalry having helped turn ‘Street Jesus’ into a major star.
A backstage scuffle between the two went viral last year after Masvidal was caught live on camera during a post-fight interview hitting Edwards after he talked trash about him, but ‘Rocky’ believes that there’s been far too much hype surrounding his rival since then, and that ‘Gamebred’ is ducking a chance for them to settle their differences properly in the Octagon.
“I’m ranked above and heading for my 9th win in a row so you know it gets you closer to the title beating me,” Edwards ranted on Twitter. “But keep hiding behind the ‘it does nothing for us’ excuse you and your whole b*tch made team keep using because you know I’ll f*ck you up.
“Has everyone realized the whole Street Jesus hard man sh*t was all just marketing yet? And Masvidal is actually a shit journeyman? Or people still think he’s good?
“Fuck it Jorge let’s fight, no money, mutual location, film it, bang it on YouTube, public will see your a pussy #letsgetit.”
It’s true that Masvidal’s altercation with Edwards certainly added fuel to his fire and added to the mystique surrounding him, but really it was his actions in the Octagon, including brutally KO’ing Darren Till earlier that same night, then KO’ing Ben Askren with a record-breaking 5 second flying knee that really turned him into one of the UFC’s most bankable stars.
Still, Edwards frustrations are understandable as despite having compiled an impressive eight-fight winning streak that’s left him at No.3 on the welterweight rankings, he’s still been something of a forgotten man in the division, and so he may feel that he has to be more outspoken in order to get the fights he wants.
