Former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will finally return to action against David Branch at UFC Fight Night 116 in Pittsburgh on September 16th.
Rockhold had racked up four victories in a row before defeating Chris Weidman to win the UFC’s middleweight title by TKO at UFC 194 back in December of 2015.
However, he then suffered a major upset when short-notice replacement Michael Bisping KO’d him in the first round to win the title at UFC 199 in June of the following year.
Since then Rockhold has been sidelined due to injuries, but he’s now finally ready to get back into the Octagon and attempt to mount another climb towards the summit of the 185lb division.
As for Branch, he returned to the UFC earlier in the year after having gone 10-0 while fighting for the WSOF promotion, winning both their middleweight and light-heavyweight titles along the way.
His first fight back in the Octagon sawa him take on Krzysztof Jotko, and it was by no means a stellar performance, but he did manage to grind his way to a split decision victory.
Rockhold Vs Branch will headline a show that’s just received a number of other additions, including Hector Lombard vs. Anthony Smith, Krzysztof Jotko vs. Uriah Hall, Kamaru Usman vs. Sergio Moraes, Gilbert Burns vs. Jason Saggo, Anthony Hamilton vs. Daniel Spitz, and Justin Ledet vs. Dmitrii Smoliakov.
