Mayweather Vs McGregor Falls Short Of Domestic PPV Record

According to a new report the boxing megafight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor has fallen just short of it’s bid to break the domestic pay-per-view record.

That’s the word according to, who claim that Mayweather Vs McGregor drew a total of 4.4 million PPV buys, which falls just 200,000 buys short of the record 4.6 million buys set by Mayweather Vs Pacquiao back in 2015.

However, it means the event easily secured the No.2 spot on the list domestically, while the worldwide number could well end up still setting a new high-water mark, having already broke the UK record with over 1 million buys.

Still, the event didn’t quite reach the lofty pre-fight expectations of Dana White, who estimated that the crossover fight would breah the five million barrier based on the level of pre-fight buzz there was for the clash of superstars.

Mayweather Vs McGregor was undoubtedly a cultural event that drew in many casual fans who wouldn’t normally have forked out for a boxing pay-per-view, but the difference between this fight and Mayweather Vs Pacquiao was that many people believed that the match-up was a foregone conclusion given that ‘The Notorious’ had never stepped into the squared circle profesionally before taking on the best boxer of his generation.

Nevertheless, everyone involved made an enormous amount of money and both fighters appear to have left the ring with their reputations still intact, so all in all it would be wrong to categorize the show as anything but a huge success.
