Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade Rematch Now Set For UFC 251

Rose Namajunas Shaved head

A rematch between former women’s strawweight champions Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade is now set for UFC 251 on July 11th and is rumored to be headed for the mysterious ‘Fight Island’ destination.

The two stars first met at UFC 237 in May of last year and after coming off second-best in the early action, Andrade stunned everyone by KO’ing Namajunas via a slam to become the new champion at 115lbs.

Andrade would then go on to lose the title courtesy of a 42 second knockout from Weili Zhang, ending her four-fight winning streak.

As for Namajunas, she initially opted to retire, saying she’d lost her passion for the sport, but she’s since changed her mind on that and had been scheduled to rematch Andrade in April, though she pulled out for undisclosed reasons and the card was cancelled soon after due to the coronavirus shutdown.

Namajunas vs. Andrade joins a UFC 251 card that is also expected to feature Frankie Edgar’s bantamweight debut against Pedro Munhoz and Paige VanZant returning to fight Amanda Ribas.
