Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has signed on the dotted line to fight Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC Fight Night 171 in London, England on March 21st.
Woodley will be competing for the first time since losing the 170lb title in a dominant decision defeat against Kamaru Usman back in March of last year.
‘T-Wood’ hasn’t been in a rush to return since then and indeed initially refused to fight overseas in the UK when a bout with Edwards was first suggested, but has since had a change of heart.
Prior to the loss to Usman, Woodley had been undefeated in seven fights, during which time he had defeated a string of big-name welterweight talent like Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson, Kelvin Gastelum, Demian Maia and Darren Till.
Meanwhile, Edwards has amassed an impressive eight-fight winning streak that’s seen the level of opposition ramp up to the likes of Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson and most recently Rafael dos Anjos, while rising to number 4 in the rankings.
Woodley vs. Edwards fronts a UFC: London show that will also feature Stevie Ray vs. Marc Diakese and Molly McMann vs. Ashlee Evans-Smith.
