Boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has toyed with the idea of fighting the UFC’s reigning heavyweight king Francis Ngannou before and at the start of 2022 he’s talking about it again with his latest post on social media.
“Who would like to see me fight this beast boxing rules @ufc gloves? @danawhite @francis_ngannou,” Fury asked on Twitter.
Ngannou is known to be interested in competing in the boxing ring, and indeed has recently suggested that when he negotiates his next deal with the UFC then he wants a clause to be added giving him the option to compete in that sport too.
That’s unlikely to sit well with the UFC brass however, as they have a strict policy of not allowing fighters under contract compete for other MMA organizations or in the boxing ring.
With that in mind they may be relieved to see that Ngannou actually responded to Fury’s call-out by suggesting they have an MMA fight instead.
“How about MMA rules with boxing gloves? I can do you that favor,” Ngannou replied to Fury.
Ngannou has other fish to fry for now though as he has a massive fight on the horizon with his former teammate Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 later this month.
Still, even in the last week Ngannou had spoken about his eagerness to compete with some of the best talents in the sport of boxing.
“Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, I would like to test myself [against] their level,” Ngannou said. “You know, it’s not the same sport but I’m a champion. I’m at the top of this division. At the end of the day it’s just about throwing hands, throwing punches, having a good delivery system. Throwing those bombs, and I’m sure if I deliver my own punches pretty good I can make some damage.”
