The first pay-per-view buy numbers are starting to filter through for August 4ths, UFC 227 event, with an estimated 300,000 people believed to have purchased the event.
If so, that’s actually better than expected for a card that featured two title fights in the lower weight classes, with TJ Dillashaw successfully defending his bantamweight title against Cody Garbrandt, while Demetrious Johnson shockingly lost his grip on the flyweight title in a rematch with Henry Cejudo.
Dillashaw and Garbrandt have a long-running feud which would surely have helped their cause, while their first fight was also exciting and promised to deliver again in the rematch.
It’s also possible that the UFC grand unveiling of Conor McGregor Vs Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 and Nate Diaz Vs Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 the night before at a special press conference may also have helped generate extra attention that led to an increase in the pay-per-view sales of UFC 227 on the Saturday night.
