UFC Fight Night 128 from Atlantic City on Saturday night drew an average of 956,000 viewers on FOX Sports 1.
That makes it the second most watched ‘Fight Night’ card of the year to date on FS1 and it’s also 20% above the overall average for events of this kind in 2017.
That’s somewhat surprising when you consider that the event didn’t feature big star power in the headliner, a clash of highly ranked lightweight talents which saw Kevin Lee defeat Edson Barboza, though Frankie Edgar going up against Cub Swanson provided a good lead-in to that.
However, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, the event’s peak rating of 1,092,000 viwers actually came earlier on the main card when Justin Willis went up against Chase Sherman, the least notable bout on the main card line-up.
Another curiosity is that though the main card perhaps exceeded expectations ratings wise, the prelims did the opposite, only mustering 561,000 viewers, which was 12% less than the average last year.
