Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 231 event in Sao Paulo the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a stand-out main card scrap between Nicolas Dalby and Gabriel Bonfim. From the start it was clear that Dalby wanted to take the fight to his undefeated opponent, but Bonfim had similar ideas, and with his fast hands, accuracy and power on the feet he was getting the better of the exchanges, while also finding success on the mat too.
In the second round it looked like being a similar story as Bonfim met fire with fire on the feet and then got the fight to the mat again. However, his attempts to work for submissions didn’t work out and as soon as Dalby got back to his feet he was right back on the offensive applying intense pressure. Despite all his ability Bonfim simply couldn’t find a way to deter him and started to wilt as Dalbyfound the mark with punches and then began to deliver a series of big knees to the head, which would eventually send him falling forward onto the canvas to set up an impressive TKO finish.
Vitor Petrino earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards when he knocked out Modestas Bukauskas with a big left hook early in the second round, while Elves Brener sent Kaynan Krushewsky face-first onto the canvas late in the first round courtesy of an overhand left for a highlight-reel KO finish.
