Fight Report

Prelims:

Ramsey Nijem defeats Justin Edwards by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 x2)

As we’ve come to expect from Edwards he fought at a high tempo with plenty of aggression from the opening bell, but Nijem was able to match that while landing the cleaner, crisper strikes and mixing in the occasional takedown into the bargain en-route to the unanimous decision victory.

Elias Silverio defeats Isaac Vallie-Flagg by unanimous decision (29-27 x3)

Silverio absolutely dominated this fight, making his mark in the first round by dropping Vallie-Flagg with a punch, and then enjoyed large periods of control on the mat and at times in the mount in the rounds that followed, though despite a few submission attempts he couldn’t find a definitive finish and had to settle for the decision win. Silverio was deprived a clean 30-27 verdict on the scorecards though due to a knee strike while his opponent was on the ground that was deemed to be illegal and resulted in a point being deducted, though replays later showed the ref made the wrong call as the strike landed to the body rather than the head.

Trevor Smith defeats Brian Huston by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)

Despite a nasty cut being opened up on his forehead in the second round, Smith emerged as the victor here by split decision with his best moments coming from takedowns in the first round and a higher volume of strikes in the third.

Louis Smolka defeats Alptekin Ozkilic by unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Fun flyweight fight here. The first round was closely contested with some big exchanges toe-to-toe, one of which left Ozkilic momentarily wobbled, though he had some good shots of his own and was also landing a few takedowns. Ozkilic began to noticeably tire in the second round though, while Smolka continued to push a torrid pace while executing some slick striking. Ozkilic showed courage to dig deep and try his best to hang in there, but he was convincingly outgunned in the remainder of the fight.

Vinc Pichel defeats Garett Whiteley by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Pichel took a clean sweep on the judges scorecards here with his takedowns and positional control on top easing him to a comfortable victory.

Beneil Dariush defeats Charlie Brenneman by submission (rear-naked choke) at 1.45mins of Rd1

Wow, Brenneman’s return to the UFC didn’t go according to plan at all, but Dariush couldn’t have asked for a better debut. The newcomer had Brenneman badly hurt early in the fight after landing a perfect left that dropped him to the mat. Brenneman grabbed onto one of his opponent’s legs and held on for dear life as he tried to get into a less dangerous position on the mat, but Dariush was all over him and ended up taking his back and sinking in the choke to force the tap.
