TUF 28 winner Macy Chaisson is lucky to be alive after a crane crashed into her apartment complex on Sunday in Dallas.
Chaisson was in her apartment during a severe storm with winds reaching over 80mph when a nearby crane fell onto the building and the parking garage.
Alarmingly, as the crane crashed through people’s apartments, killing one person and injuring five others, it stopped just one floor above where Chaisson was sitting, with her dog nearby.
“Once I heard all the crashing and felt the shaking I looked at my dog and got out of there as fast as possible,” Chaisson told UFC.com. “I didn’t even have any shoes on.”
Thankfully she was able to make her escape, and she was greeted by a chaotic scene outside.
“People were panicking. Apartments were completely gone. The pool, the garage, everything was destroyed. This is by far one of the craziest moments of my life.”
Due to the damage, Chaisson has been unable to return to her home and says she’s lost everything she owned, from her birth certificate through to her TUF trophy.
Of course Chaisson is also without a place to call home too, but nonetheless, for now she’s just counting her blessings that she’s still alive.
“It reminds you how valuable life is. You’re not replaceable, but material items are.”
Chiasson also took time to thank those who had helped her through the aftermath of the incident.
“I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the handful of people and their families who were affected by this tragedy. I would also like to thank the people close to me for their support, including my coach Sayif Saud who came and got me after it happened. Also the UFC, and specifically Mick Maynard, for caring about me and having my back.”
The UFC fighter, who is currently 5-0 in her career, has since stated that she is suing both the apartment complex and the crane company.
