Valentina Shevchenko Vs Liz Carmouche Now Headlines UFC Fight Night 156

Valentina Shevchenko weigh in

A flyweight title fight between current champion Valentina Shevchenko and Liz Carmouche that was originally rumored to be headlining UFC On ESPN 4 will now headline UFC Fight Night 156 (aka UFC On ESPN+ 14) in Montevideo, Uruguay on August 10th.

Shevchenko heads into the fight riding a three-fight winning streak since dropped down to 125lb a year ago.

It began with a second round submission victory over Priscilia Cachoeira, followed by a title-winning unanimous decision victory over Joanna Jedrzeczjyk, while most recently she successfully defended the belt with a second round head kick knockout of Jessica Eye.

As for Carmouche, after a split decision loss in her flyweight debut against Alexis Davis, she’s rebounded with unanimous decision victories over Jennifer Maia and Lucie Pudilova to earn the second title shot of her career so far.

Carmouche also has the distinction of having previously beaten Shevchenko by TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage all the way back in the C3 promotion in 2010, making her one of only two people (the other being Amanda Nunes) to have emerged victorious against ‘Bullet’ in her MMA career.

Shevchenko Vs Carmouche headlines the UFC Fight Night 156 show, which will mark the promotion’s first ever visit to Uruguay.
