Despite being one of the UFC’s leading featherweight fighters, the latest word is that Zabit Magomedsharipov may be on the verge of retirement.
The news comes from Russian site TASS and comes just days after the 30-year-old was removed from the UFC’s rankings, where he had been holding down the No.3 spot.
“With a high degree of probability, Zabit will no longer fight,” TASS reporter Igor Lazorin stated.
“I’ve spoken to Zabit’s close people to see how things are going. They say Zabit is most likely to end his career and not fight anymore. Long, simple, no special motivation. Stoned tired of fighting – that’s what they say.”
Magomedsharipov is currently on a six-fight winning streak in the UFC and holds an impressive 18-1 record overall, but it seems that he may have lost his motivation to compete after having not had a fight booked since his decision win over Calvin Kattar back in November of 2019.
Zabit was then scheduled to fight Yair Rodriguez last year, but that fell through and he turned down a replacement fight due to not being offered an opponent who was close to his own ranking.
Hopefully this won’t be the last time we see Magomedsharipov fight as he is very talented and was almost within touching distance of a title shot prior to his long spell of inactivity.
