Ben Rothwell Win

Ben Rothwell will no longer be fighting Alexander Gustafsson in May after the veteran was releasec from his UFC contract.

At this stage its not clear what happened to lead to the decision to suddenly release ‘Big Ben’ out of the blue.

Rothwell had lost two of his last three fights in the promotion, with a submission win over Chris Barnett being sandwiched inbetween losses to Marcin Tybura and Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

That leaves the 40 year old Barnett with an overall 9-8 record in the promotion prior to his release.

As for Gustafsson, he is coming off 3 losses in a row, but despite his latest defeat coming via a submission loss against Fabricio Werdum in a heavyweight debut back in 2020, the former light heavyweight title contender is hoping to remain in the division for his next fight, with Ovince Saint Preux being touted as a potential replacement for Rothwell.
