Anthony Smith was able to capitalize on an overzealous takedown from Vitor Petrino to lock in a 1st round submission finish tonight at UFC 301.

Round One:

Jab from Smith. Now a low kick. Body kick from Petrino. Leg kick again from Smith.

Jab from Petrino as he wades forward confidently. He lands again. Smith comes up short with a couple of punches.

Low kicks from Smith. Petrino marching forward again, throws punches to the body and then goes for a takedown.

He hoists Smith up into the air and slams him to the mat, but Smith had him in a guillotine choke the whole time and Petrino only seems to realize he’s made a big mistake once they are on the canvas and is quickly forced to tap out only two minutes into the opening round.

That was a schoolboy error from Petrino, particularly against someone like Smith who has a proven finishing record via submissions and gratefully snatched on that opportunity to get back to winning ways and hand his opponent his first career loss.
