UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is choosing not to take the high road when it comes to his long-standing beef with former college room-mate Colby Covington after watching him suffer a third round TKO defeat to Joaquin Buckley on Saturday night.
“Big shoutout to Colby Covington for skipping training to get President Trump ‘ready’—we all appreciate the sacrifice At least he got to see me win,” Jones wrote on X.
“That’s what I find the most hilarious, listening to what he’s gonna come up with next after getting his ass whooped.”
“I know I shouldn’t but it’s just so much fun. It’s amusing watching someone you know hate you fail repeatedly.”
Covington has been targeting Jones for years, and indeed even last week during UFC On ESPN 63 media day in Tampa, Florida he had plenty to say about the champion, who he first met when they shared a dorm room at Iowa Central Community College many years ago.
“I think Jon needs to stop ducking Tom Aspinall, just like he ducked Ngannou,” Covington had told reporters. “He ducked Ngannou a few years ago, now he’s ducking Aspinall. He doesn’t want to fight the guys he knows he’s gonna get his ass whooped against, so I don’t think anything special of Jon Jones.
“He’s a f*cking coward, he’s a cheat, and he’s a woman beater. He needs to stop beating his wife and leaving her bloody in Las Vegas hotel rooms.”
