Jon Jones has renewed hopes that the only loss of his career could finally be overturned after the announcement that a ban on 12-6 elbows in MMA is set to be lifted by the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports committee.

Jones’ disqualification loss to Matt Hammill back in 2009 due to illegal 12-6 elbows has always been a bitter pill to swallow for the star as he had been completely dominating the fight up until that point and was on the verge of a TKO finish.

Worse still, the referee Steve Mazagatti hadn’t warned him first to not use the banned technique, instead just deciding to instantly disqualify him on the spot, and in doing so robbed him of his undefeated record.

Jones has since campaigned to have the decision overturned, and even the UFC themselves have too, but their fleas fell on deaf ears.

However, it seems he’s now hoping that this latest rule change, which will go into affect in November of this year, could enable him to amend his record to 27-0 (+1nc) and rightfully claim to have gone unbeaten in his MMA career to date.

“Undefeated then, undefeated now,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “@danawhite we gotta get that loss out of the history books.”
