Injury-jinxed former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is out of his co-main event fight against Miles Johns at UFC Fight Night 247 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
At this stage there’s no confirmation on why Garbrandt has withdrawn from the fight, but it would be no surprise if it were to be due to an injury as he’s had numerous lengthy layoffs during his UFC run that led to him only fighting once a year between 2017-2021, before then missing 2022 in it’s entirety.
That being said, Garbrandt did manage to fight twice in 2023 and won both those fights, leading to talk of a potential resurgence for the 33-year-old, only to then suffer a submission loss to Deiveson Figueireo at UFC 300 earlier this year.
It now remains to be seen whether his opponent Johns will be kept on the main card against a late replacement as he looks to improve upon his current four-fight unbeaten stretch in the promotion.
For now though the UFC Fight Night 247 card continues with a main event of Neil Magny vs. Carlos Prates, while Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reiner de Ridder appears to be the new co-main event.
